Buying a Property on the Algarve - a very brief overview of the area.

If you are considering buying a property in the south of Portugal there will be something for you on the Algarve for sure. The following is a very brief introduction in order to help you decide where to focus your search for a property.

The coast of the Algarve is known for its dramatic cliffs, golden beaches, sandy bays and beautiful islands. However, there is far more to the Algarve than this. There are many attractions including beach bars, castles, surfing, diving, golf, bird watching, entertainment, organised activities and much more.

Since the 1960's property development, particularly on the coast of the eastern Algarve, has steadily changed the face of the towns and surrounding landscape so that  today it has become far more of a resort, packed in summer but relatively quiet in winter. Despite the development there are still many attractive towns and villages which are relatively unspoilt. However, today, if you really want to get away from noise, the west coast is less developed and a great place to enjoy nature and unwind.

If you don't mind the beach being a half hour drive or more away you might consider looking at the enchanting inland Algarve areas. Here you can find pretty castle towns and historic villages. For nature you have the wonderful Via Algarviana hiking trial and you will be able to see hillsides covered with flowers,  cork trees, a rich birdlife and much more.
